I can't hold it in anymore!
Whatever we actively suppress or repress eventually makes its way into the light if it is not addressed head on. Whether it's an outburst at a gas station for the pump to not work, or an argument with a spouse over an unpaid bill - life is constantly speaking to us, challenging our understanding of ourselves.
Emotions are both physiological and emotional responses that tell us how we understand our environment. When we dismiss them or deny them, something happens to the brain. The prefrontal cortext, which controls executive decisions of your life, becomes hyperactive. You start to get tired, exhausted from suppressing how you feel. The amygdala, which detects danger and helps form memories of emotion, becomes hyperactive.
With an exhausted brain, approaching life with its daily demands can result in burnout. When this happens, you might say something you regret, do a task that could result in an injury if not done properly (eg. poor driving leading to an accident).
Our emotions need to be felt, experienced and validated.
